Brazilian Butt Lift
Micro Fat Grafting to the Buttock (Brazilian Butt Lift, BBL)
Micro fat grafting to the buttock often times referred to as BBL or Brazilian Butt Lift utilizes the patient’s own fat to augment the buttock area. The fat is harvested through liposuction techniques (often times from multiples locations) and then it is washed and re-injected into different areas of the buttock as desired to enhance certain deficiencies based on the patient’s anatomy and presentation.
The ideal candidate for Micro Fat Grafting to the Buttock is someone that:
- Is in overall good health
- Has maintained a stable weight for a minimum of 6 months prior to surgery
- Has ample fat to harvest for transfer
- Has skin or volume deficit due to weight loss and/or aging
The common areas that are used to harvest fat are the trunk, thighs, upper back and arms.
In addition, it is important that the individual be:
- A non-smoker as this affects the overall fat retention rate
- Realistic as to what surgery can achieve
- Realistic that this surgical procedure may require additional surgery to obtain optimal results.

Brazilian Butt Lift FAQ
It is a surgical procedure that aims to enhance the buttock aesthetic volume, and curvature for a youthful attractive appearance. This is achieved with repositioning the patient’s own fat cells to the buttock area from torso, extremities, or both while liposculpting (reshaping) the donor site as well.
One of the reasons Brazilian butt lifts are considered so favorable for patients over the use of an implant is that surgeons reduce the risk of infection by using patients’ own fat. A Brazilian butt lift cannot be performed on patients who do not have an adequate amount of fat elsewhere on their bodies to be transferred.
Additionally, for a Brazilian butt lift to be successful, the skin around the buttocks needs to be relatively tight. Sagging skin won’t respond to the augmentation alone, as the fat transfer won’t stop the skin from sagging. If you have sagging skin, a traditional butt lift (in which excess skin is removed) or a traditional butt lift combined with a fat transfer (hybrid lift), may be a more appropriate procedure.
To determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure, schedule a consultation and Dr. Chahin will help you choose the right option for you.
Dr. Chahin recommends avoiding putting any direct weight on the buttocks for the first two weeks after surgery for an extended period of time and only sitting on soft cushions for the first six weeks.
If you must sit during the first two weeks, it should be on a very soft cushion (donut style preferably) and only remain seated for a limited amount of time. Standing and gentle massaging are often encouraged.
Patients can return to work within seven to 10 days but highly encouraged to wear a compression body garment to control swelling for six to eight weeks.
Ideally, fat should be available on the stomach, thighs, and back as these are the most common sites we typically do the liposuction from.
